Steve’s finger after a SawStop “finger save”

“SawStop saved my finger, allowed me to avoid a costly

trip to the hospital and saved my employer money”

Steve M. – Cupboard Manufacturer – Wichita, KS 11/27/07

“One of my students was ripping a piece of solid stock black walnut.  During the

cut,the board started to come off the fence at which time his middle finger on his

left hand was pulled into the blade.  Fortunately for the student, the other students in

the room and me, my next tasks of the day were getting the student a band-aid and ordering a new cartridge instead of calling for an ambulance.  I’m amazed at how

scary the incidentwas to both the student and me.  The rest of my day went a whole

lot better than it would have had we not had SawStop table saws in our school woodshop.”

James S. – Industrial Technology Instructor, Illinois

Chris was ripping a 2X8 piece of oak during woodshop class when the off cut caught an edge and his left index finger hit the front of the blade.  Had that happened on another saw, Chris’ shop teacher thought that Chris would have amputated 3 fingers below the

first knuckle.  As it turned out, his injury required only 3 stitches.

“The SawStop saved Chris’ fingers along with a lot of medical bills.  The school bought

the saw in February 2007.  Thank goodness they did!  My students learned a valuable lesson and [the school avoided] the chance of a lawsuit over medical bills.”

Dennis H. – High School Shop Teacher, Kansas – May 9, 2007

“I can’t believe anyone would use anything but this saw.  Having used it first hand

now, knowing my finger would be gone, nothing can speak more than that.  Being

a PGA Golf Professional in addition to woodworking, I can’t thank SawStop enough

for having all of my fingers.”

Woodworker – Door Manufacturer – Fremont, CA

“My student must have reached under the guard and heard the “thump” of the saw

blade before she knew she was hurt.  She had a small 1/8” X 1/4” surface wound

on her left thumb which was cleaned out and bandaged by the school nurse and

returned to class before the period ended.  This injury would have been much worse

and most likely would have resulted in a trip to the emergency room if not for the

safety feature of the saw.  I am so impressed with the saws that we own two of them.”

Tom S., High School Industrial Arts Instructor, CT

“We are pleased (and one of us EXTREMELY relieved) to tell you that we had our first “save” yesterday after a year of having two SawStop saws in our shop. The guy that was using it came to let me know how much he appreciated my investment in that saw. Once

I figured out what he was talking about, I immediately wanted to see the damage. He was very pleased to show me that it was not much worse than a utility knife cut. He was able to put on a band-aid and go back to work. That single “save” just paid for both saws that we bought with the savings in workers comp premiums that would have resulted. Thanks SawStop!!”

SawStop save #66… right index finger.

“The pass was quick and the blade stopped immediately.  I’ve heard how a blade can

pull fingers and hands down [into the spinning blade] but with SawStop, the blade

stopped before I even realized I had touched the blade.  I received no injury whatsoever.

I really was amazed at how quickly and safely the blade was stopped!”

Timothy A. – Industrial Woodworker, Salt Lake City, UT

“Pretty amazing that I only had to put on a band-aid.  The Saw reacted so quickly that I didn’t even know what had happened.  Saved my thumb from a serious injury and saved my company lots of money.”

"Look at this picture - I rest my case!  I Praise God for having a product that not only

is the best on the market in function but also is, without comparison, the safest!"

Carl Seymore "C-MO" of Cabinet Door Shop immediately after his thumb came in contact with the blade while using a SawStop Cabinet Saw.  March 2006

In 2006, Justin had a humbling experience.  He was talking with a friend next to a saw that

was running but no material was being cut.  His friend said something that upset him and

he slapped his hand down on the table.  Although he meant to hit the table, his handcame straight down on top of the spinning blade

Justin estimated that he would have amputated at least the top part of his finger.  Fortunately, his mistake resulted in only 4 stitches in his left middle finger.

“It is sure going to be nice having my finger, even my entire hand.  I am very grateful

this saw was installed.”

Justin R. – Cabinet Shop Employee, Utah – August 15, 2006

The “Rolls Royce” Of Table Saws

“I just wanted to drop a line to you guys and let you know how much I love this saw.

It would be worth its purchase price even without the brake.  It's fit and finish is unparalleled.  When I first went to look at one at dealer in Virginia, they had it sitting on the showroom floor next to a Delta Unisaw and the Unisaw looked cheap and shoddy compared to your product.  I've had it for several months now and it lives up to every expectation. It's truly the "Rolls Royce" of table saws.”

Chris D., MD

“I think SawStop is the best made saw since saws were ever made.”

Finger save #55… right thumb

“I didn’t even know I touched the blade until it was all over.  Thanks to SawStop, there wasn’t even a scratch.  I’ve been cut before by a table saw and it’s amazing how fast it cuts you.  I would recommend SawStop to anyone.”

Chris L. – Industrial Woodworker, Salt Lake City, UT

_______________________________________________________________________

“I recently heard about your saw, the SawStop, on NPR News and how it safely disengages to prevent accidents.  I went to your web site and was utterly amazed by

what I saw!  Wow!  A saw that can sense whether a human finger or hand comes in contact with the blade, then in micro-second, disengage and remove the blade from

the saw surface.  Amazing!  I am particularly happy to see that this saw, with its advanced safety device, is available but wish I'd had one about eight months ago.”

“I was installing new shelves for a closet and needed to trim about an inch from each

shelf end.   I was on the last shelf when I noticed that my girlfriend, Gina, had come

out into the garage.  I finished that trim pass on the last shelf and pressed the kill

switch to cut power.  The blade began to slow as I was lifting the shelf off the saw

table when I caught a glimpse of Gina coming up to the table to assist me by removing the shelf scrap from the table.  As her hand reached for the scrap piece, I drew a quick breath to tell her to STOP.  It was too late.”

“All we heard was a "tink" and she reeled back - stunned.   I couldn't believe it!

I didn't know how severe the damage was but knew it was going to be bad.

We rushed her to the hospital where we were fortunate to find one of the best

orthopedic surgeons in the state of Illinois.  It took about 3 hours of surgery to

repair the damage.”

“The cost of her injury was incredible.  The trauma and rehabilitation to the finger

was $4000.00 out of her pocket and another $10,000.00 in insurance costs.  I think

about that day and how the SawStop could have saved it all.  The monetary cost

of the accident alone would buy 4 SawStop saws with all the added accessories.

No matter how much emphasis I place on safety, I know that accidents can and

will happen.  Thanks for such a great product!

Dave J., Illinois

“A true sign of the worth of a company is the value it places in its employees. As a

responsible employer, we need to have safety as a number one priority. Every so

often some forward thinking individual creates a solution to a safety issue that we

as employers need to have and can simply buy."

“Over the years we have had several severe injuries on table saws. When we

became aware of the Saw Stop technology, we couldn’t buy it quickly enough.

Thanks to SawStop we have already saved what would have been total amputation

of most of a thumb."

“You can have all the safety meetings you want and try to instill a conscious

thought process in employees working around hazardous machines, but the bottom

line is usually a distracted moment that results in injury. The usual comment is how

dumb the moment was, but you can’t fix dumb, and the last time we went looking for

an amputated thumb to send to a hospital it had gone up the vacuum.  All of us at

Pacific Pine Products, Inc. are your biggest fans-keep up the good work.”

Roger L., President, Door Manufacturer, Oregon

“I personally believe in this product.  I have seen it demonstrated, both live and on

video.  I now have personal first-hand experience with this revolutionary safety device.

I purchased my saws because I believe in safety – after all, exactly how much is a severed finger (or worse) worth in today’s litigious society?  Certainly several times

the cost of a SawStop brand table saw.  I replaced 2 perfectly serviceable, well known name brand saws, all in the interest of safety and corporate responsibility.”

“My question is:  When is the rest of the industry going to wake up?  How many more disfigurements, amputations or worse, are going to happen for the sake of saving a few dollars?”

Vic N., Owner, Cabinet Manufacturer, Florida

“Any educational shop that does not provide this level of safety is being negligent.

This technology is revolutionary. I no longer worry that somebody will be injured

using our table saws when I'm at work or away. These table saws actually let me

sleep better at night…Priceless.”

Kevin G., Shop Teacher, Minnesota

"As the Construction teacher at Swift Current Comprehensive High School and a Journeyman Carpenter, I was relieved to have, one of our four Sawstop saws, do

as it should when a student came in contact with the blade. He was ripping a piece

of spruce stock and his support hand came in contact with the blade."

"The cut was just below the first knuckle of the thumb and in my opinion, had it been any

other saw, he would have lost it. The injury consisted of a slight cut, which the medical professionals saw fit to glue back together with crazy glue, as stitches were not necessary.

The reason for our desire to share this story is due to our complete satisfaction with the product. It has made our school a safer place to work and learn. In 20 years of using table saws, these saws are the finest operating saws I have used and seen, the added technology truly makes them superior to any other. I look forward to the release of the SawStop band

saws in the hopes that we can incorporate them in to our safer work environment.

With Thanks,"

"Last year, the University bought our Materials Lab a new SawStop saw.  Such

foresight and generosity has saved me a layer of worry and the university a great

measure of worry and liability, not to mention my grad assistant's lack of pain and suffering.  My grad assistant set off the safety feature on our new table saw and

walked away with a minor scratch. Not even a bandage was needed!  Due to our

new SawStop table saw there was no incident to report.  The blade retracted so fast

that my grad assistant didn't know what happened.  He called me and told me he

had broken the saw.  It took me five minutes to replace the blade and safety cartridge.

A minor cost compared to the alternative.  I also made it clear to my assistant what he

did wrong and the simple steps he needs to take to avoid doing it again. This is a

valuable lesson without the pain, one that he can pass on to our students and in his

future career."

Rich Goldberg

Director of Materials Lab – The University of North Carolina-Greensboro

“It can happen to anyone…even us experienced guys.”

"I was cutting some 1 ¼” oak on my new SawStop cabinet saw.  At the same time, I was keeping an eye on a new employee who was working on the planer.  After cutting part way through, I realized the blade wasn’t set high enough and I pushed down on the wood to make the blade go through.  Because I was still watching the guy on the planer, I didn’t even notice when the blade popped through the wood and my finger ran right into it.  I wasn’t paying attention and I made a mistake.  Fortunately, the SawStop safety system did its job and it barley cut into a callous on my finger.  I didn’t even need a bandage.  SawStop saved my finger!”

Don’t Wait For An Accident To Happen!

A True Story

John and Peggy had been taking woodworking classes at the local college when they decided that it was time to upgrade their old Powermatic table saw.

A Researcher and Writer by trade, John was used to doing his homework before making higher-end purchasing decisions.  Like most people, John and Peggy  were interested in getting the best value for their dollar.  Being safety conscious, they had heard of SawStop and considered it as an option.  At the time, John was reluctant to purchase a saw with newer technology from a newer company which, then, was about $1,000 more than some of the other saws they were considering.  As it turned out, they ended up buying a brand new Delta Unisaw.

In the spring of this year, John and Peggy were working on a project at their woodworking class.  As part of the project, John needed to make a series of rabbet cuts.  Not being satisfied with his classroom work, john decided to practice the cuts in his home shop that evening.

While making one of the cuts, the wood became unstable due to a difference in the grain and John lost control of the cut.  His finger made contact with the blade so fast that John hardly felt or noticed what had occurred.  Quickly taking inventory of the situation, John had cut off a quarter inch of his left index finger.

After selling their Unisaw, John and Peggy recently purchased a SawStop cabinet saw for their home shop.

“We should have bought a SawStop to begin with.  After spending six hours in the hospital and several thousands of dollars in medical expenses I thought, ‘why did I even skimp’…SawStop is well worth the money.  After having cut off part of my finger, Peggy and I decided that we needed a table saw that provides an extra layer of Safety for both of us.  Even the most seasoned woodworker, no matter how safe or experienced, can experience that one little thing that goes wrong.  That one little thing can turn into a huge event.  Even though I can’t feel what’s left of my finger tip, I’m fortunate that what happened to me could have been far more disastrous.    Our SawStop saw gives us a level of reassurance just in case “that one little thing” goes wrong again.  Money well spent!”

John & Peggy R.- Northern California – November 2005

“Thank you! Thank you!  Our school purchased a new SawStop several months ago.

Today, that saw saved one of our student's thumbs.”

“One of our sophomores was cutting on the table saw and encountered a situation where his thumb ran into the blade.  BANG!  The saw stopped rotating and dropped out of sight.  We looked at his fingers and found a slight paper-cut-like scratch on his thumb.  He was also able to walk away from the shop and say, today I made a mistake, but I still have all my fingers.  Once again, thank you!”

 Scott Simacek – Shop Teacher

The technology truly works, as Lowell, Arkansas saw operator John Stroud recently found out. On March 15, Stroud was building cabinets for Collins Custom Cabinets when his hand slipped and came in contact with the blade. Luckily for him, the saw was equipped with SawStop and the blade gave him just a slight nick, saving his finger. Owners Sharon and Don Viers are grateful.

“Having John walk away nearly unscathed was not only a blessing to him, but a huge sigh of relief for us. We know that we made the right decision to buy SawStop saws for our employees, and it has obviously paid off for John and for our business.”

Sharon V. - Arkansas

“If he had been using a conventional saw he would have destroyed his hand.”

“I bought two SawStop saws to replace my Unisaws.  The saws are first rate, well made and stout.  Yesterday, one of my longest serving employees, who has been with the company for almost twenty years, with no accidents, ran his thumb into the blade.  If he had been using a conventional saw he would have destroyed his hand.  He’s still shaking his head.  So there you have it.  I can say my money is well spent.”

Testimonial

“I just wanted to tell you that it is unreservedly the best table saw I have ever used.

It is expensive compared to other cabinet saws but it is worth every penny.

Just the peace of mind we have knowing that our kids are “safe” from amputation

is worth it.  Apart from the safety aspect, the saw is quality, quality, quality. Even

down to the manual.  I just love starting up that saw and running lumber through it

knowing that the riving knife or the blade guard are doing their job without compromising the accuracy of the cut.  Our previous saw was a relatively recent General Int. cabinet saw. Next to your product, it’s junk.  I just wish we could buy all of our saws with this technology. Congratulations on a truly excellent product.  It’s a tool I actually look

forward to working with.  All the best,”

Wolf M. – High School Tech. Dept., Chatham, Ontario

"The level of precision to which this saw can be tuned exceeds that of other major contenders in the market.  The beefiness of the internal components, the vibration free double pully drive, the vertical post elevation system and the virtually perfect fit and finish from top to bottom would put the machine at the top of the class even aside from the safety system.  I have spent a long time checking out many machines before my buying decision and I hope these comments help other woodworkers looking for quality."

Rob Porcaro - Medfield, MA

______________________________________________________________________

“I wanted the best North American style 10 inch saw on the market.

Sorry Powermatic and Delta, even with out the technology the SawStop has them beat.  The controls alone are akin to spinning the wheel of a bank safe, smooth and effortless. This saw screams quality.  Out of the box alignment…perfect. Table and cast iron wings, ditto.  Folks if I could find fault somewhere, I wouldn't hesitate to let you know.”

Per Swenson – Swenson & Swenson, Denville, NJ

“I want to commend you on your product.  I have been a shop teacher for 10 years and this is the best built saw I have ever seen.”

Mike Stanfield – Jennings high School, Jennings, MO

“It is a very high quality saw. It is designed differently from the standard cabinet saws out there in several basic ways. These all come together to make what I think is the best 10" cabinet saw I have owned. I've had one person in the shop to see the saw, and another asked me questions on the phone. Both have said they are ordering one for themselves.”

“Not only is the saw gorgeous, but it works like a charm.  I really appreciate the extra power cut-off dial and the great big wrenches for the blade.”

“I've had my new saw for awhile now and I wanted to let you know that it is an incredibly well made machine.  I had a Powermatic 66 for the last 10 years and don't miss it even slightly.  Thank you very much for a phenomenal machine.”

“You've truly put out a product that will change the industry.  Even without the safety system, this saw is the best I've ever used, and I've used Powermatic 66's, Unisaws,

“Just wanted to let you know that I got my new saw last week. I played with it this weekend and it's all tuned and adjusted. The fit and finish and smoothness of this saw is amazing. I am totally satisfied and happy with my purchase. Strong work, Thank you.”

Scott Stanwyck - Woodworker
______________________________________________________________________

“The saw is easy to assemble and adjust, and appears to be manufactured with quality materials to close tolerances. SawStop understands that safety alone does not sell saws,

and they took the opportunity to reconsider and improve on many aspects of cabinet saw design... The saw is solid and smooth running.. I particularly recommend this saw for

schools and commercial shops, but think that dedicated private woodworkers might

enjoy working with it as well.”

Dave Wright - WoodCentral, SawStop Cabinet Saw Review
______________________________________________________________________

“I try to balance my reviews with both the good and the bad but this saw is simply the finest piece of woodworking machinery that I've ever laid my hands on. When using this machine you get the feeling that a real woodworker has decided to build a cabinet saw that addresses every problem that cabinet saws have today.. This saw is often compared to the Unisaw, General 350, and PM66. However, it's nearly 150 lbs heavier than any of them, it has a larger table, and advanced technology. It's really in a class by itself.”

Matt Woodworth - Woodworker

______________________________________________________________________

“Five years ago, one of my employees, a kid, mangled three of his fingers while working on our table saw.  The dado set chewed through his fingers like a hamburger grinder and crushed his bones.  Two years later, another employee was working on table saw and some stacked material fell over and pushed his hand into the blade and cut off one of his fingers.”

“The worst part isn’t the fact that my worker’s comp premiums doubled from $18,000 to $36,000 in a two year period, or the fact that OSHA can come by anytime they want, or that work productivity goes down and business suffers.  The worst part is the guilt of knowing that you sent a kid to the hospital.  The guilt that you feel knowing that this kid’s life has changed, that he is suffering and that you have sent him out into the world without the use of three fingers for the rest of his life.  I don’t want people working for me with stubs.”

“When I saw your cabinet saw demonstration I bought one.  It is awesome!

Jerry King – King’s Custom Cabinetry, Rancho Cordova, CA

“Just a note to tell you I finally turned my new cabinet saw on and it purrs like a lion with a kitten’s voice. Please pass this on to your outstanding service department and tell them everything worked out great!  I appreciate dealing with people who seem to care about the customer, a rare find in these times. The whole experience of purchasing my cabinet saw was great.  I'll let you know how my work progresses now that the saw is fired up.

Thanks again to very nice people.”

“I had a brand new 5 hp Powermatic saw delivered to the shop but never plugged in.  After seeing the saw in Atlanta, I signed up, returned home and sold the Powermatic at a slight loss and waited for my SawStop to arrive.  I have owned a SawStop for about 1 /1/2 years.  It was the smartest tool purchase I have ever made.”

Don W., Woodworking Instructor, Burlington, IL

“I have had your saw now for about 4 months.  To attempt to explain the level of comfort that I now experience in the shop is difficult.  Gone is the threat of someone obtaining a severe injury while operating the table saw.  The removal of the threat makes the whole experience much more enjoyable and relaxing.

This is the best saw I have ever operated.  Probably the best purchase I have ever made.  I would like to point out that the quality that is built into this saw and many or the safety features put it in a class where there is no equal.  Congratulations on making such a fine product.”

2 Finger Saves!

“(Our company) recently purchased a SawStop table saw and I am pleased to inform you that we have had great success with your product.  Without this amazing technology, we would have suffered not only one but two potentially serious injuries.  Thanks to the SawStop, neither of the incidents was severe and no injuries were rendered.  Our company just wanted to take the time to thank you for manufacturing safer equipment, in turn reducing the risk of serious injury at our facility.  Thank you.”

Nathan F., Lead Fabricator, VT

"As I said on the phone, the mobile base for the SawStop works beautifully. Is it worth the bucks? I wondered that myself before I ordered mine. It makes the one I bought with my 15" Grizzly planer look like a toy. This thing is a heavy duty base that fits right out of the box. An internal hydraulic jack lifts the saw (36" extension and all) clear off the floor so that it can be rolled around easily, and it is adjustable for both raising and lowering, though mine didn't need any.

Frankly, I wouldn't want to have to contend with this saw without it.

We already had to move one boat out, and it was no problem at all to roll the saw 10 or 12 feet to get it out of the way and back again afterwards. Quite a contrast to that Shop Fox base from Grizzly that acts as if it is on its last legs even though it's less than a year old."
