SawStop Dust Collection Setups Help to Clear the Air in Your Shop

Everyone knows that SawStop table saws provide unparalleled safety for your hands and fingers. But did you realize that SawStop saws also deliver incredible dust collection, especially when equipped with a collection hood over the blade?

SawStop’s two types of saws—cast iron and portable—require different types of dust collection to maximize the effectiveness of each unit. The portable saws (Jobsite Saw Pro/JSS and Compact Table Saw/CTS) have a shroud below and around the blade connected to a 2-1/2” outer diameter (OD) dust port at the rear. To get the best dust collection with these saws, connect a shop vacuum or dust extractor to the port with a short length of flexible hose (10’ or less; the shorter, the better). The JSS comes with a blade guard equipped with a 1-3/8” inner-diameter (ID) port, allowing you to connect a dust hose there as well as the rear port. The CTS does not offer an above-the-blade dust-collection guard.

SawStop’s three cast iron saws offer multiple dust collection ports, either as standard equipment or optional accessories. For these saws, connect a dust collector using 4” flexible hose and duct. To connect to the blade-guard with the same 4” hose, install a wye and reducer running to that smaller port. Or, to maximize airflow at each port, connect a separate shop vacuum to the blade guard port.

• Industrial Cabinet Saw (ICS)

Our largest, heaviest cabinet saw comes with a lower blade shroud connected to a 4” port on the rear of the cabinet, as well as a Dust Collection Blade Guard equipped with a 1-1/4” ID/1-1/2” OD dust port.

• Professional Cabinet Saw (PCS)

The PCS is our most popular saw, especially for hobbyist woodworkers. This saw sells with either a 1.75 or 3 HP motor, and standard dust collection differs on these two versions. Both come with a lower blade shroud and 4” rear port, but only the 3 HP version comes with the Dust Collection Blade Guard. You can buy this as an optional accessory for the 1.75 HP version.

• Contractor Saw (CNS)

The Contractor Saw does not have a fully enclosed cabinet like the two previous saws. The mostly enclosed half-cabinet features a lower blade shroud and 4” port underneath. The blade guard does not have a dust port, but you can buy the Dust Collection Blade Guard as an accessory. You can also buy the optional Dust Collection Panel for this saw that, when installed, relocates the 4” port to the rear of the saw’s open leg stand.

SawStop also offers two larger table saw dust collection attachments, sold as optional accessories, to collect dust from above the blade. These attach to all three of our cast iron saws. No extra dust collector or shop vacuum is required for either.

• Overarm Dust Collection (TSA-ODC)

This accessory mounts along the rear fence rail (below the rip fence) and comes with metal duct and flexible hoses that attach to the Dust Collection Blade Guard (required) and the 4” rear port.

• Floating Overarm Dust Collection (TSG-FDC)

This is a heavy-duty accessory made of 4” steel tube that mounts to the right end of the saw’s table. Flex hose connects to a dust collection hood that mounts on the tube; you then connect 4” flex hose to the far end that runs to the collector. Because the hood does not mount to the blade/arbor assembly, it can be raised and lowered as needed to suit various stock. And if the hood gets in the way of a certain task, such as cutting tenons vertically with a jig, you can pivot the whole assembly out of the way. Finally, for those who mount a SawStop Inline Router Table between the fence rails, either on the left or right sides, we offer two dust collection setups. The fence that comes with our router tables includes a 2-1/2” centered rear port. The Downdraft Dust Collection Box (RT-DCB) sells as an optional accessory and mounts below the router table to encapsulate the router (and router lift, if equipped). This box has a 4” dust port. With these two in place, you can connect a shop vacuum or dust collector, but you’ll need a 2-1/2”-to-4” reducer for one of the two, depending on your choice.
